JOB TITLE: Corrections Education Quantity Foods Teacher - long term substitute

JOB ASSIGNMENT: Quantity Foods Program - Corrections Campus

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP: The corrections education quantity foods teacher - long term substitute assigned to teach the quantity foods program at the corrections campus reports directly to the principal / administrator assigned to the corrections campus, in conjunction with chief academic officer.

JOB DEFINITION: The corrections education quantity foods teacher - long term substitute will be responsible for the daily instruction in the area of food preparation. Food preparation instructor will plan, organize, supervise and teach students food preparation, safety and sanitation techniques, and the social skills necessary for working within the food preparation area.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The corrections education quantity foods teacher - long term substitute will:

  1. Develop and implement methods of instruction and curriculum of planned courses in the area of food preparation which will prepare students for employment related to institutional, commercial or self-owned food establishments or other food service industries.
  2. Develop and implement a remedial program in safety and sanitation to provide instruction for lower functioning students so they may complete building assignments.
  3. Provide skills the students can employ to successfully compete in a food preparation job market (or receive credit from their home school district upon their return from the program).
  4. Develop and implement a program of instruction designed to provide functional life experience in the preparation of foods.
  5. Maintain exact attendance figures and report these to the school program office on a weekly basis.

  7. Provide quarterly grade reports to the school program office for entry in to the student files.
  8. Met and discuss with the education team and designated Department of Human Services (DHS) staff on a daily basis the condition of the group from their previous meeting, noting any changes in the regular schedule resulting from doctor or court appointments.
  9. Maintain appropriate records on students.
  10. Work with DHS staff to help establish field trip experiences for all students, when and where appropriate.
  11. Maintain an ongoing list of experiences the students encounter while enrolled in the program, and notify the supervisor of these events.

NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Minimum requirement is a bachelor’s degree and a valid Pennsylvania certification in Vocational Education-Instructional I for Quantity Foods with National Occupational Competency Testing Institute (NOCTI) certification. A candidate with a bachelor’s degree and willingness to obtain a Type 01 or Type 04 emergency permit in the area of 2059-Quantity Foods will be considered.
  • A demonstrated ability to work with at-risk populations, excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, and the ability to work productively with Department of Human Services staff is essential. Basic computer skills are required.


PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Training in and the ability to implement fully all components of safe crisis management, suicide prevention/Intervention and first aid/CPR are required.
  2. Attendance at training seminars and in-service programs identified as important to the operation of an effective correctional instruction program.
  3. Participation in workshops/seminars to increase knowledge in special education.
  4. Participation in workshops/seminars to increase computer skills and content-area knowledge and various living skills.

 

ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS:  Current, approved Act 34 (PA State Police), Act 151 (PA Child Abuse Registry) and Act 114-FBI Fingerprint clearances are required and must be renewed at appropriate, specific intervals pursuant to Act 153 of 2014 (revised Act 15 of 2015).

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The corrections education teacher - long term substitute assigned to the corrections campus must have the ability to:

  1. Perform light physical education activities with the students including, bending, light exercise, throwing, hitting a ball, etc.
  2. Physically separate fighting students, if this should occur.
  3. Navigate the hallways (which may be filled with students) quickly in the event of an altercation.
  4. The ability to implement fully all components of Safe Crisis Management.

 

TIME AND SITE REQUIREMENTS:

  1. This is a substitute position not to exceed 80 working days to cover the leave of absence of a current full-time employee. Position involves working 7.5 hours per day for a total of 37.5 hours per week. Some evening meetings may be required
  2. Attendance at work is a requirement of this position; any and all absences must be approved by the immediate supervisor.
  3. Occasional overnight travel to seminars or training may be required.
